The
well drilling process has been started in the village of Mayette.
Brother Van was there to drill, and teach how to drill (by
hand). They drilled 35 feet, but the rock layer was much thicker
than expected, so the project has been on "pause" for a bit.
But Patrick and the others will continue drilling another 15–25 feet
and hopefully find good water.
Last fall during hurricane season, the water canal in Mayette was
destroyed, and because of that, the farmers were unable to plant
beans. The canal provides some irrigation for the gardens. Recently
the community has been working to reconstruct the canal. We are
needing more cement to complete this project. This was a huge
project, with an estimate of 300 bags of cement needed.
Bible School is going well. The graduates from last year are starting
church conferences in each village this month. They will be in a
village for a week. The current students will be working alongside the
pastors in the conferences. Teaching is so necessary in the churches.
Many people have asked if we are ready for teams again. As the country
gets stable, we will consider scheduling teams again. We pray
by this Fall we will be able to schedule teams again. The
medical/dental needs are on the rise.
Barb continues to work at recovery. There have been complications, and
pain on an ongoing basis. We pray we will soon find the solution to
this problem so she can return to Haiti. She feels like a "fish
out of water", being away from the mission activities, not to
mention away from Patrick for such a long time.
God has continued to be our strength and encouragement.
