Construction
January 12, 2011 will mark the one year anniversary of the Haiti earthquake. Although many organizations have helped and continue to help with the destruction, there is still much to be done. There are houses that have been damaged or destroyed in the village of Mayette and surrounding villages. We are now starting the building project in these areas.
We were planning to use the metal housing, which we thought would be quite cost effective, but have decided that block housing would be better. After speaking with another organization who has already assembled 30 of these homes, and they have found them to be very hot to live in and after the cost of shipping/customs they are the same cost as block houses ($5000 per house). The other advantage of the block houses is that native workers can build the houses. This will feed at least 5 families for every house that is built. All materials can be purchased in Haiti (cement, tin for roofing, wood for framing). The cost includes materials, transporting the materials to the village plus the wages for the masons.
If you or your church would like to be a part of this project, contact us. Teams are welcome to come help. We will not only depend on teams for building but are using a native mason crew who have worked for the ministry for several years. As long as God provides the funds for this project, we will continue to build a house for those who need it. Also, each family receiving a house is responsible to supply the sand and rocks.
